What is life really all about? What is my purpose?

What is this life really all about? What is my purpose?

These are the BIG life questions that we’ve all had, and I don’t know anyone that has ALL the answers. I can only speak from my personal life experience. After trying to shove a square peg in a round hole for many years in the corporate world, I discovered that all of the walls I was hitting were trying to force me down a new path. I found that when I refused to change, life had a way of changing me. And believe you me, I wasn’t a very good listener at first. After back to back surgeries because of exhaustion and running in circles trying to “make it work” I finally realized that I desperately needed a change. I began to see the handwriting on the wall in the form of health issues, stress, weight gain and depression. There weren’t any magic pills that I hadn’t tried or time/project management strategies that I hadn’t mastered. Let’s face it folks, I was on the wrong path-I wasn’t living in a way that was in alignment with my beliefs and the only thing I was learning was how not to completely lose my mind. Once I realized this, I began to plan and save for that desperately needed rainy day (really a rainy year fund.) I began reducing my spending. For example, I started dying and cutting my own hair ($10 instead of $150), making meals instead of eating out ($5 instead of $25) and saved, saved, saved. I also, talked to family, friends and saw a counselor to get the feedback and grounding I needed to forge a new path. I began to incorporate mindfulness technique, meditation and exercise into my daily practice. Before I knew it I began to hear my own voice again and I liked what it was saying. Then I was ready. I was scared to death but I was ready. I took a leap of faith in Dec 2012 and quit my job, a job that was literally killing me and took time to do some soul searching. Now, I DON’T recommend you go out and quit your job. I guess what I’m trying to illustrate, is where there is a will there is a way. If you need a change, then examine what isn’t working and what you need in your life. Create a support system with people that you love and professionals that you trust and then take steps to make changes. Even the smallest steps will get you closer to your goal. Before you know it you have transformed your life.
